4 Rabbit Housing Options to Consider

There are a variety of ways in which to house your pet rabbit indoors, including cages of varying sizes, custom built enclosures, puppy pens or simply a room that has been rabbit proofed. Free Reign – Rabbits like to stretch their legs, so by providing a room safe for them to be in, it gives them a chance to explore at their own leisure. Supervision is a must though if the room is not fully rabbit proofed just in case they find themselves in a spot of bother. When giving your rabbit free reign in a room, make sure you provide them with a litter tray, food dish and clean water in an open area. And Cardboard castles are great to hide in if your rabbit likes a bit of space to themselves. Cages – Most owners prefer large rabbit cages to keep their rabbits in. This is fine as long as they also have a few hours a day free time to roam outside of their cages. As cages vary in size, there are a few basic necessities required to aid the health and happiness of your rabbit. Make sure their cage is large enough to accommodate your rabbit. The bigger the space, the better! Your rabbit needs ample room to lie, sit or stand, as well as enough room for their food, water, litter tray and any toys they have. Cages with a front or side door make it easy for your rabbit to come and go as they please as well as providing you easy access to clean the cage. Puppy Pens – Puppy pens are a great option as they are large enough to hold all the essential items for your rabbit. If you intend to give your rabbit free reign, puppy pens are useful to get your rabbit accustomed to large areas and where their food and litter tray is located. Most puppy pens do not come with a roof, so you may need to check that the pen is high enough so your rabbit is unable to jump out. Custom Built Enclosures – So there you have it! Choosing the right housing for your rabbit may depend on your living arrangements or space within your home. Keep in mind though that Rabbits are social creatures and enjoy interaction, so place them in a location where they won’t become lonely or feel abandoned.
